Challenge by Choice

Fox Valley Center for Outdoor Learning adheres to the "Challenge by Choice" philosophy of participation throughout our Adventure Programming. Students choose their own level of participation and everyone's choices are respected and honored by all group members. Fox Valley Center constantly strives for a safe and fun team building environment where you make the choices.

YMCA Camp Algonquin's Challenge Course Program offers more than 22 low ropes and ground initiatives designed to enhance your student's leadership, teamwork,  and problem solving skills, as well as improve levels of communication, cooperation, support, trust, and risk taking capabilities. Below are just a few examples along with testimonials from both teachers and students.

Wild Woozy An activity in which two students must travel on cables down an area that widens as you go. Support and communication are essential.	The Wall One of Fox Valley Center's most popular elements on the Teams Course. While at first the 8-foot or 12-foot wall seems like a daunting task, it can be accomplished through solid leadership, teamwork, trust, and communication.

Incomplete Bridge A problem solving activity in which students must cross from one raised platform to another without touching the ground using just two 2-foot by 8-foot boards. Everyone must simultaneously work together while figuring out how best to use the given resources in order to reach the other platform.	Giants Quarters Requires students to cross an area by using only wooden blocks. Support, teamwork and problem solving are all tested in this activity.
